Leibster Award

It's Halloween! Happy Halloween everyone! What's everyone up to?

Questions from Sandy
1. When and how did you come to the wonderful world of blogging? 
I started my blog at the beginning of summer this year, so I'm still pretty new! I decided to start a blog and I thought it would be a lot of fun and it would be a great step in the direction of my dream career, a magazine journalist.

2. When you were little, what did you dream of becoming when you grew up?
When I was very little I wanted to be a dance choreographer as I took ballet, tap and jazz! As I'm still growing up (I'm 15 years old) I dream of becoming a magazine journalist or editor!

3. What does the word 'community' mean to you?
My immediate thought is family. An environment full of supportive, friendly people that you can relate to. 

4. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would be your first choice?
It has to be between Ibiza or New York. Their fun iconic styles are amazing and I'd love to experience the exciting fun of Ibiza and the city chic of New York!

5. Tell us 5 blogs you read regularly

6. What/who inspires you?
Everyone who has achieved or are working towards their dreams or goals!

7. What's your favourite thing to do?
Seeing my friends and family! I just enjoy spending time with them, it doesn't matter what we are doing.

8. Describe yourself in 3 words...
Bubbly

9. If you could have any power, what would it be?
I would love to be able to turn invisible! You could sneek around and do whatever you wanted, and meet whoever you wanted!

10. What was the first book you ever read?
When I was little I loved the story 'I Love You, Blue Kangaroo' by Emma Chichester Clark. The main reason may be that the main protagonist was a young girl called Lily, but I loved the cuteness of the story! I still enjoy reading the book now to my little sister!

11. Where do you see your blog in 5 years?
I hope to have a following that enjoys reading my blog posts. I have been thinking about starting YouTube videos, maybe in the future, who knows?

1. What's your favourite part of your face/body?
I usually get compliments on my eyelashes as they are so long, and my hair as it is naturally highlighted.

2. Why do you blog?
I enjoy it so much! I love being able to have my own platform where I can write, and I love the blogging community!

3. Do you have someone who keeps you going?
Not really, my friends and family are really supportive though.

4. Where would you like to spend your next vacation?
New York or Ibiza! What amazing fashion destinations!

5. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I will be 25. Hopefully I would have finished university and got to a steady job (hopefully magazine journalism!). I would have hoped to have travelled a lot aswell!

6. What's your favourite season?
I think it has to be Spring! The weather starts to get warmer, the flowers start to bloom and there are some many cute baby animals!

7. Who's your biggest inspiration?
Anyone who has achieved or who are working towards their dreams and goals!

8. What motivates you when you are feeling down?
I can confide in my friends and they are sure to prick my spirits up. If not I resort to listening to music!

9. Do you take blogging seriously or just a hobby?
I think blogging should be fun! I don't use my blog as a business or anything, or not yet anyway.

10. Would you follow your blog if weren't the writer?
Yes! My blog is all about this I'm interested in. I like to be myself through my blog.

Taste of Autumn at Costa

Recently I was contacted by the beautiful Myah from the beautiful blog Myah Rebecca! She asked me whether I wanted to join her in a blog collaboration and I happily agreed! She came up with the lovely idea of doing a lifestyle post on the autumnal selection of drinks at Costa and Starbucks! I decided to take a trip to Costa with my friends and try out their specialty drinks, and she went to Starbucks. Read through my opinions on these drinks below and then click the link at the bottom to follow on to Myah's post on Starbucks. Enjoy!


Firstly I ordered the Roasted Hazelnut Latte. The lovely nutty taste was very autumnal and warming; a lovely milky latte is the perfect solution to warmth on an autumn day! Although, I did find the drink a touch too bitter for me so I would recommend adding some sugar.


Then I ordered the Hot Spiced Apple. The gorgeous spiced cinnamon stick and star anise floating at the top of the glass was very seasonal and added a lovely aesthetic touch. The aromatic smell gave me a warming glow and the taste was very sweet and soothing.


My friends decided to go for the coolers! Not very autumnal, but delicious drinks, so I decided to include them in this post. The two flavours shown above are strawberry and cream, and caramel latte. They are two coolers you can rely on to taste great! My personal opinion is that they are very sweet so I can only really order a small.

How to reduce period pain

Some women suffer from period pain worse than others. Below are 8 ways to reduce these menstrual cramps...
Eat a healthy diet full of nutrients.
Try lying in different positions to relieve pain.
Place a hot water bottle on the area.
Try to do mild exercise, such as going for a walk.
Distract yourself from the pain by maybe going out with friends, or just listening to music.
Try yoga or book a massage.
Lay off any alcohol or coffee.
Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes.

Ways to reduce puffy eyes

Puffy eyes have many causes such as allergies, genetics, lack of sleep or, of course, a late night out. Below are some fast fixes to refresh and tighten your eyes...

Apply eye cream with a herbal base - preferably rosemary.
Splash cold water on your face when you wake up in the morning.
Freeze some cucumber slices in the freezer. Once fully frozen place over your eyes.
Use eye patches and treatments.
Massage the eye area that appears puffy.
Take a spoon and leave it in a cup of cold water. Once cold place the spoon over your eyes.
Dip a flannel in ice cold water and place over the puffy eyes.

Sea Salt for your Hair

Sea salt is rich in sodium, magnesium and many other minerals which are naturally present in seawater. Large flakes of coarse sea salt can be used in hair products such as shampoo or hair mist, because it helps to counteract the effects of soft water, which makes hair flat, and creates amazing shine and volume. Sea salt also cleans and softens the hair and scalp without stripping away too much natural oil, giving your hair a gorgeous lift and encouraging natural movement and texture. Overall sea salt is a great ingredient for flat, dull or lifeless hair.

How to contour

Cheat your way to amazing cheekbones with this contouring technique...

Base
Apply foundation to your whole face using your fingertips, starting at the centre of your face and working outwards. To find your perfect shade, test on your jawline and not on your hand.

Conceal
Apply concealer to the inner corner of your eye, draw three lines outward and then one more below your brow to highlight. Blend into your skin with a concealer brush.

Highlight
Use a highlighting powder and sweep across the top of your cheekbones with a powder brush.

Contour
Using a brush with shorter bristles, apply a bronzer underneath your cheekbones, over your temples, under your chin and then either side of your nose.

Benefit Cosmetics Favourites

I love Benefit and their gorgeous cosmetics! Below are a few of my favourite products...
Firstly, the POREfessional makeup primer. This primer is voted number one in the UK for three years; clearly it's an amazing product! The translucent balm is light-weight, oil-free and reduces the appearance of fine lines and blemishes. This product is a great base for make-up, or it can be applied upon makeup to keep your makeup on all day.

The next product is the posietint. This beautiful pink stain is great when applied upon cheeks or lips. If applied on lips, I would recommend to top it with the dandelion ultra-plush lipgloss.

Above is the they're real! mascara, my favourite mascara at the moment! It is currently the top mascara in the UK for two years! The formula creates volume and length, while lifting and separating the lashes. The brush allows you to ensure all areas are coated to perfection.
My final product follows on from the mascara and it is the they're real! push-up eyeliner. This lash-hugging eyeliner is amazing! It has an easy application and a formula which is waterproof and smudge-proof.

Review: The Teenage Guide to Stress


The Teenage Guide to Stress, by Nicola Morgan, is a handbook ideal for teenagers who suffer from stress, as it covers all aspects of teenage anxiety and worries in a concise and clear manner. It thrives on the understanding that teenage stress is due to lack of control and us lingering in a state between childhood and adulthood. The guidebook aims to help teenagers through stress and it allows them to know they are not alone.

As soon as I started to read the book, I was immediately hit with a feeling of comfort and glowing warmth from Nicola Morgan. This positive feeling continues throughout the book, this is a strange sensation when hit with topics such as depression, eating disorders and even suicide. These topics, although sensitive and highly personal, are shown across in a friendly manner giving across the feeling that you can confide in the author. Topics are delicately approached, so not to upset or offend anyone. When reading each section of the book you start to feel united with other young people suffering from the same issues or problems, and this makes you feel uplifted.

The handy guide contains frequently asked questions before each block of information. This helps you to relate to the information provided and it also gives you a sense of belonging. Small inspirational quotes are also included and Morgan adds in her personal stories so we can start to feel a connection with the author. 

In section three Morgan gives us non-stop tips and strategies on coping with stress, and I feel all teenagers can benefit from these. Following on from section three is an appendix of resources. Here we see straightforward, clear pages that hold information on topics seen in the main sections of the book. This is an area that teenagers can flick back to in times of need or when they need to seek help or reassurance. As I read the book, I couldn't but note down pieces of advice that I found striking and significant. Below are some advice ideas that I feel all people in the tedious stages of adolescence can benefit greatly from...

Talk to a trusted adult
Morgan dedicates 6 pages exploring trusted adults. She enlightens us on how to tell if an adult can be trusted and directs us to who may be a good choice to confide in. Suggestions to these trusted adults include your parents, a youth worker, a doctor and many more. She also refers you to additional contacts like Childline, which are in the resources pages at the back of the book.

Channel stress and anger
Stress over-load can cause a teenager to start to rage and you begin to feel like the world is against you, trust me, I can relate. Anger can be very hard to prevent from occurring but you can learn to control it with some small nuggets of advice. One piece of advice I thought was very inspiring was to channel your anger into something creative, such as writing, poetry or art. This is turning something negative into something productive and positive.

It's just pre-adulthood!
On page 35 Morgan writes that it is a good idea for teenagers to realize that it's just our hormones and a phase. The stress during this period will soon be over, maybe sooner than you think. The experiences you are having are the same of other people similar to you. You are not alone.

Reducing stretch marks

Many of us have them, but many other people don't see them on us. Stretch marks can be body blemishes only we worry about, but we must remember they will fade in time. Below are some ways we can increase the rate at which these marks turn lighter...
Use intense moisturisers such as shea or cocoa butter.
Use some sunless tanning products to cover the marks.
Stretch and exercise everyday to increase blood flow to the area.
Massaging the area also increases the blood flow.
Stay hydrated.
Eat foods such as carrots, spinach, fresh fruits, eggs, meat and poultry.

The Fashion Identity App





The other day I had this new app recommended to me, Fashion Identity
The app creates a fashion community which hopes to appeal to young people who are interested in the world of clothes and outfits! It allows people to be inspired by other people's creativity or for others to express their own style. The app includes features such as a customizable wish list and a virtual chat platform, you can even earn points to use as discounts of items you wish to buy. The app is available for free in the app store.  It has been described as pinterest for fashion, meets facebook with a twist! I love how easy the app is to use and how friendly the community is, providing me with tips and style inspirations.

What is the right career for me?

Nowadays we are pressured to know what career is right for us at a young age. I am in Year 11 and am passionate about being a journalist, although I am in the minority by knowing my dream job, as I know lots of people around my age that are stressing about their future plans. The key is to not worry to much and go with the flow. Although below I have left some questions that may trigger some inspiration or lead you in a direction towards the right career for you...
